Members of ISA who reside in Midwestern states are automatically members of ISA-Midwest. BYLAWS (adopted November 7, 1986):

Article I. Name and Objective

The International Studies Association-Midwest (ISA-Midwest) is an affiliate of the International Studies Association authorized by Article IV of the Constitution of the International Studies Association.

The Purpose of the Association is stated in Article II of the ISA Constitution. The objective of a regional association is to extend the benefits of ISA to the Midwest area.

Article II. Membership

Membership in the International Studies Association is a prerequisite to membership in the regional association.

The privileges of membership include eligibility to participate in business meetings and receipt of publications, newsletters, etc., of the association.

Article III. Government

A. Officers of the Association shall be a President, Vice President (who will serve as a Program Convener) and a Secretary, who will serve as editor of the ISA-Midwest Newsletter.

1. The terms of office shall be one year for President and Vice President and three years for Secretary.
2. The duties of these officers shall be those generally understood as falling within the province of such officials and as implied above.
3. In addition, the President shall be responsible for appointing the members of the Quincy Wright Book Award Committee.
4. Transition from the current President to the new President will take place during the annual business meeting.

B. The governing Council shall consist of the President, the retiring President, Vice President, Secretary and four members at large serving for two-year terms.

C. The Council responsibilities shall include:

1. Determining the date of the annual meeting.
2. Choosing the site of the annual meeting.
3. Approving expenditures of the association.
4. Developing a slate of nominees for the Association's officers to serve as a basis for elections at the annual meeting.
5. Determining the numbers and functions of standing committees.
6. Approving membership in standing committees.
7. Initiating changes in the bylaws.
8. Any other business that might properly fall within the province of the Association.

 Article IV. Adoption and changes in these Bylaws

Changes may be proposed by a majority vote of the Council and adopted by a 2/3 vote of those present and voting at an annual meeting.
